UPDATED: Some Local Schools Reopen, Some Close Through Friday

See which schools will be open and which will be closed Thursday.

All local school districts in the eastern half of Southampton Town were closed from Monday through Wednesday, and now that the town is recovering from Hurricane Sandy, only some schools will reopen Thursday while others will remain closed through Friday.

Classes will resume Thursday at Bridgehampton School and Sagaponack School. Sagaponack notes that bus services will be unlikely Thursday, and parents should be prepared to drive their children to school.

Southampton School District will remain closed on Thursday, "due to lack of power at the high school and intermittent phone and internet service district-wide. In addition, some roads are still closed and some traffic lights at busy intersections are not working," according to the district website.

UPDATE: Tuckahoe School will be closed Thursday, and administrators are determining whether to resume classes on Friday. The district website states  "The Montauk Bus safety and emergency transportation center has informed us that a significant percentage of Tuckahoe Community’s roads in our residential areas have several leaning electric poles and hanging or unrepaired broken electrical wire issues. Many damaged trees are overhanging the roadways. Additionally, the traffic lights on highways that our buses need to cross remain out. What power is on at the school is interrupted to allow further repair to be performed in the surrounding area. The telephone and internet communications are spotty and the wireless telephone is intermittent. We continue to secure recovery updates hourly and will continue to alert our families early in the afternoon of the day prior to our school status decision by phone, TV, radio,  and internet communications."

Sag Harbor School District will be closed on Thursday and Friday. "The conditions of debris in roads, lost of power, trees and wires down have contributed to the close of schools," the district website states. "This will give workers time to restore our roads and resume power to make it safe for our children to travel to and from school."

Our Lady of the Hamptons in Southampton Village will be closed on Thursday and Friday.

Ross School will be closed Thursday.

Why not have the schools organize help for the local area. I'm sure the kids would enjoy and learn a ton!
