School District, Bay Street Explore Options for Theatre's Future
Timeline could be unfeasible for Bay Street and school district to collaborate toward a new theater, The Sag Harbor Express reports.
trustees and Sag Harbor School District officials met Tuesday to discuss the prospect of collaborating on establishing a new performing arts theater, a plan that would ensure Bay Street could stay in Sag Harbor after its lease on its location ends in 2013, reports.
Building a new theater would require the approval of the New York State Education Department and the voters, Superintendent Dr. John Gratto pointed out, meaning a new theater would take years to materialize, according to The Express' report. Also potentially throwing a wrench into the situation, Murphy Davis, a creative director for Bay Street, said that creative freedom is "non-negotiable," i.e. Bay Street will not accept restrictions on "racy" content, the report states.
