Sag Harbor Voters Approve $9 Million in Capital Improvements

First proposition for the bulk of the capital improvements passes with ease, while the second proposition for the turf field and walking track passes by just 78.

Sag Harbor School District voters approved two bond propositions, totaling $9 million, on Wednesday night.

Proposition one, which covers $7.4 million of the proposed capital improvements, including renovations and expansion of the auditorium at Pierson Middle-High School and reconfiguring parking, was easily approved 740-to-369. There were 1,109 votes cast.

The second proposition for a new synthetic turf athletic field and a two-lane walking track — priced at $1.6 million — narrowly passed 585-to-507. There were 1,092 votes cast.

"The Board of Education of the Sag Harbor Union Free School District and administration would like to express appreciation to all residents who participated in the district’s bond propositions vote," the board said in a statement Wednesday night. "The District will continue to provide updates and to seek community input as we proceed with these exciting plans and projects."

The board put out the proposal to the public after months-long discussions and recommendations from the 21-member Educational Facilities Planning Committee, which included community members, parents, business people and school staff.
