Local public school districts Southampton, Tuckahoe, Bridgehampton, Sagaponack and Sag Harbor have all announced closures for Wednesday — the third day that Hurricane Sandy and the subsequent power outages have canceled school.
A message on Southampton School District's website reads, "Electric power has not been restored to Southampton High School, the bus garage, and many residences. Some roads remain closed. Hopefully, these conditions will improve quickly so that we can resume normal school operations. Please pass this message to those who may not have power."
Among private schools that announced closures are Ross, Our Lady of the Hamptons, Hayground and Southampton Montessori.
Hampton Library in Bridgehampton will open Wednesday at 9:30 a.m., and Rogers Memorial Library in Southampton Village will be open as well.
John Jermain Memorial Library in Sag Harbor will be open if electricity is restored.
Southampton Village Hall will reopen on Wednesday, Mayor Mark Epley said.
Suffolk County Bus Transportation is suspended, County Executive Steve Bellone's office announces Tuesday evening. Suffolk County Parks remain closed until further notice. The Suffolk County Health Center in Southampton will be open Wednesday.
Hamptons Gym Corp stated on Facebook that its Sag Harbor and Southampton locations have no power, and will be closed Wednesday. However, the East Hampton gym will be open.
