Last Chance: Sag Harbor School Board Nominations Due Friday

District extends deadline after a candidate withdraws.

Because a candidate in the Sag Harbor School Board race has dropped out, the deadline for getting on the ballot has been extended until Friday.

According to a statement from the school district, while the district clerk was trying to verify that all candidates were eligible, it was discovered that one had only become a registered voter in the school district on March 26. To be qualified, a candidate must have been a district resident for one full year by the time of the May 21 election. Jonathan Glynn was sent a letter from the school district's attorney requesting that he document his residency, and Glynn opted to withdraw his nominating petition, the district stated.

Now the deadline to turn in a petition is May 10 at 5 p.m.  The documents are available from District Clerk Mark Adamczyk's office and must be returned with the signatures of at least 28 qualified Sag Harbor School District voters. Those interested may contact Adamczyk at 631-725-5300 ext. 1411 or madamczyk@sagharborschools.org.

There are six candidates on the ballot already for four spots on the School Board. Incumbents Chris Tice, Edward Drohan and Susan Kinsella wish to keep their seats. The challengers, so far, are Thomas Re, Daniel Hartnett and David Diskin.

The two top-vote getters will receive full three-years terms beginning July 1. The candidates who finished in second and third place will be sworn in immediately after the election and their terms will expire June 30, 2015.

The Sag Harbor Elementary School PTA and the Pierson PTSA are co-hosting a "Meet the Candidates" night Friday at 7 p.m. in the elementary school gymnasium.

The election and budget vote are May 21 between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. in the Pierson High School gymnasium.
