Last Chance: Montessori School Open House

Throughout the month of March, has an open house every weekday from 9:30 to 11 a.m., and this is the last week for drop-ins.

According to the American Montessori Association, the Montessori Method of education, developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, is a child-centered educational approach based on scientific observations of children from birth to adulthood. "It is a view of the child as one who is naturally eager for knowledge and capable of initiating learning in a supportive, thoughtfully prepared learning environment. It is an approach that values the human spirit and the development of the whole child — physical, social, emotional, cognitive," reads the association's website, amshq.org.

Southampton Montessori School is located on 4 acres in Shinnecock Hills. It offers both morning and afternoon sessions and an extended-day session for kindergarteners. Classes are held in mixed-age groups, between 3 and 6 years old. Montessori is a three-year curriculum, so preference is given to children who enter school before they turn 4 years old.
