Southampton came out on top over Harborfields Wednesday in Northport, earning the title of Suffolk County Small Schools Champions for the second consecutive year, and now the Lady Mariners compete to become the Section XI Champions.
According to Newsday, the Southampton girls basketball team, the B-qualifiers, came back from behind to win 43-40 in overtime over the A-qualifiers.
Friday evening, the Lady Mariners face the large school champion, Sachem East, at Ward Melville.

Coming up Wednesday, March 6, Southampton heads to Hofstra University in Hempstead to take on the Nassau County Class B Champions in the regional semifinals for the Long Island title.
Southampton High School is chartering a bus for spectators to Wednesday's 7:30 p.m. game. Permission slips are available in the athletic office for students, and community members may contact Cel Gravano by Tuesday at 631-591-4615 or cgravano@southamptonschools.org to reserve a spot. Admission to the game is $7.
