Hayground School Receives $275,000 Grant

Leon Levy Foundation awards grant to Hayground for the second year in a row.

For the second straight year, in Bridgehampton has been awarded a substantial education grant to support scholarships, a scientist-in-residence, community forums and afterschool programs in foreign language, sports and music.

The $275,000 grant is courtesy the Leon Levy Foundation, a philanthropic organization started in 2004 by the estate of Leon Levy, a co-founder of Oppenheimer and Company. Other Levy grant recipients include Harvard, New York University, Princeton and Rockefeller University.

“We are pleased to renew our contribution to Hayground and continue to commend its outstanding and innovative brand of scholarship and the dynamic learning environment it creates,” foundation President John Bernstein was quoted as saying in a statement to the press.

Hayground, founded in 1996, is a private school that subscribes to unconventional teaching methods, centered on the arts, compassion and discourse.

Upcoming Hayground Forums sponsored by the foundation are "The Independent Project" on March 26, featuring student activist Sam Levin and his friends leading a discussion about the role students can play in their own education, and “Approaching the Creative Process” on March 31 with the composer and founder of The Hayground Creative Orchestra, Bruce Wolosoff. The suggested donation for each event is $10.
