Film Gives 'Inside Look' of Southampton High School

11-minute video includes interviews with students and faculty.

A local videographer's short film that captures the spirit of Southampton High School had its big screen debut Friday in the school auditorium.

Southampton resident Ron Esposito, of CommonCents Media, made the 11-minute film, named "Southampton High School: An Inside Look," that includes interviews with students, faculty and administrators. It takes viewers inside classrooms, the school planetarium and the school's athletic, theater and music programs.

Interviewed students discuss the sense of family, community and individual attention they enjoy going to a small school with a small teacher-to-student ratio. Teachers talk about the educational goals they have for students, which include not just excellent academic performance and college readiness, but also developing well-rounded "highly literate" thinkers with an appreciation of diversity.

Assistant Superintendent for Business Maria Smith wrote a comment on Esposito's website praising the film.  "As a member of our school work family, a long-time Southampton resident, and a parent of two children that have graduated from our schools, I am so proud to call this my home for so many reasons," Smith wrote. "You were able to capture that sense of pride in just eleven minutes.

"That is the spirit and enthusiasm that we wish for our children, our students, and our community."

The district also plans to soon add the film to its web channel, Mariner Television.
