Spiritual Recovery

Spiritual Recovery is all-inclusive and non-sectarian; available to any man or woman, regardless of age.  It happens when one is reconnected to Spirit; exactly when it is supposed to happen to help someone deal with that which is usually unbearable. On rare occasions, it can be a joyous or spectacular life event.

Usually there is a common thread in all the paths or events that bring one to Spiritual Recovery: physical, mental or emotional pain.

Spiritual recovery can be thought of in the context of a Twelve-Step program, which is certainly one of the paths that lead to Spiritual Recovery. The Twelve-Step programs are for those who become obsessed and/or addicted to a substance, which can take the form of alcohol, drugs, food, sex and relationships, etc. Even though their addiction begins to take a toll by negatively impacting their mental, physical and emotional health, finances and relationships, you cannot stop by yourself. Many find their way out of the darkness by working the steps of the program that will bring them to a spiritual awakening or Divine experience, thus beginning their journey of Spiritual recovery. Then there are those who have had a negative or poor relationship with God. Something happened in life that was either painful and/or undeserving that led them to stop believing in and/or communicating with God. At that point, Spiritual Recovery wasn’t an option. Eventually they reach a point where looking for fulfillment outside of themselves is not satisfying and begin to go within.

Another type of person to seek Spiritual Recovery is one who was raised in a faith that was forced upon them or didn’t make any sense to them, or they were made to fear God, or something surrounding that religion caused them pain, humiliation or disrespect. They know there is more to life than what they are experiencing and start searching for a religion or spiritual path that encompasses love instead of fear, joy instead of pain, respect rather than disrespect.

Whether one is beginning a new relationship with their Inner Self or has had a Spiritual Awakening/Divine Experience, the common thread is how one can deepen or enhance that experience.
