Dr. Demian Chapman will talk about tracking oceanic whitetip sharks (Carcharhinus longimanus), the species that Jacques Cousteau called the "most aggressive and dangerous of all sharks", even more so than the legendary great white. Dr. Chapman will paint a picture of a bold, inquisitive and social animal, that is truly the apex predator of the open ocean at low latitudes. He will present and discuss results from two expeditions to the central Bahamas to tag these elusive predators. Lastly, he will show a way forward for conserving this endangered species, which has gone from being one of the most abundant large vertebrates on Earth to being rare and difficult to find.
