Lawrence Levy Speaks on 'Election 2012: The Road to the White House Runs Through the Suburbs'

Lawrence Levy, Executive Dean of the National Center for Suburban Studies at Hofstra University, will be the guest speaker on the topic “Election 2012: The Road to the White House Runs Through the Suburbs” at the 35th Annual Meeting of the League of Women Voters of the Hamptons on Sunday, May 6, at the Watermill Community Center, 743 Montauk Highway.

The public is invited to hear him speak at approximately 3:15 p.m., midway through the annual business meeting, which begins at 2 p.m.

His talk will cover the work and the polls conducted by the National Center for Suburban Studies, a nationwide non-partisan research institute. He will also brings news of the presidential debate to be held at Hofstra on October 16—one of three nationwide debates sponsored by the Commission on Presidential Debates this fall.

Before joining Hofstra, Mr. Levy was Senior Editorial Writer and Chief Political Columnist for Newsday. During his 35 years as a reporter, editorial writer, columnist and PBS talk show host, he covered six presidential campaigns and won many of journalism’s top awards, including Pulitzer Prize Finalist.The business portion of the League meeting will include adoption of the budget for 2012-13, the election of officers and directors, and the adoption of local program.

Also on the agenda is the presentation of the Betty Desch Student Leadership Award of a $1,000 scholarship to a graduating senior from a local high school.
