East End Arts School Holding Open House on Friday

Drop by from 6 to 8 p.m. and see what programs the East Main Street arts school has to offer.

Are you interested – or maybe interested in trying to get your kids interested – in something that doesn't involve a remote control?

Howabout an instrument? Howabout a blank easel or notepad? Howabout a stage that could be theirs?

East End Arts School is hosting an open house on Friday night from 6 to 8 p.m. to show the public the programs they offer that ranges from theater to art to music and more.

"We're opening up the building and have a variety of activities going on," said Steve Watson, director of education at the school. "This is an opportunity to come by and take a look at the space, maybe get a short instructional lesson on an instrument, and get a feel for what we're doing over there."

Located on East Main Street, the school offers programs for kids, high school students, and adults in a variety of courses. Friday night, several events for kids will be set up including the chance to get a live recording of themselves, or demo sessions for kids interested in acting.

Jazz drummer Ben Riley, who has performed with the likes of Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk, will be on hand for kids getting live recordings.

In addition, the recently-opened Peconic Community School, which leases space at the East End Arts School, will be showcasing their programs as well.

Snacks will be available for kids, as well as arts and crafts activities for kids of all ages.
