Countdown Is On For Common Core Curriculum Forum

What questions do you have about the Common Core Curriculum?

A Common Core forum hosted by New York State Education Commissioner Dr. John King is only a day away, and residents are gearing up to voice their opinions about the controversial curriculum.

The forum will be held on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Eastport-South Manor High School, located at 543 Moriches-Middle Island Road, in Manorville.

And in case you can't get to the forum in person, Patch will be live streaming the event, so you won't miss a minute.

The event was moved from an initially suggested Riverhead site to a new location.

The intent of the meeting is to give parents, students, and educators the opportunity to ask questions and express their opinions about the New York State Education Department’s roll out of the Common Core, teacher evaluations, testing and student privacy.

The auditorium seats 1000; seats will be available on a first come, first serve basis.

At the first Common Core meeting in the area, held at Ward Melville High School Tuesday night, around 1200 turned out and blasted the Common Core Curriculum.

Last week, Riverhead Central School District officials explained how individuals could submit questions in advance; those whose questions were selected will have a seat reserved at the forum.
