Bridgehampton Schools to Present the Same Budget for a Re-Vote

Bridgehampton Superintendent Dr. Lois Favre has decided to present the same $12.3 budget to voters for the second time on June 17 after it failed to attain a supermajority of 60 percent as mandated by the state because it pierces the tax levy cap.

Dr. Favre’s board supported budget fell short of approval by just 36 votes as reported in The Sag Harbor Express.

The 2014-15 proposed school budget is a $1.1 million increase over the current budget of $11.2 million and surpasses the state’s mandated maximum increase which for Bridgehampton would have been 3.8 percent not the 9.93 percent requested under the budget presented.

According to 27 East, Bridgehampton will have to re-write their entire budget should it be defeated once again on June 17.
