Bridgehampton School Board President Hemby Seeks Second Term

Nicki Hemby wants to help the school grow in curriculum, enrollment, technology and space.

Nicki Hemby, 39, the president of the Bridgehampton School Board, was born and raised in Bridgehampton on Lumber Lane. She attended St. Andrew’s (now Stella Marris) for elementary school and Mercy High School in Riverhead. She went on to attend Mercy College in Westchester and transferred to Fordham and majored in sociology. She is running unopposed.

She is a co-owner of Macaroni Kid, which is headquartered in Water Mill. She is an active member in the Bridgehampton PTO and was president for three years prior to being elected to the Bridgehampton School Board. She serves on the district’s audit committee, budget committee and site base committee.

“I am an advocate for youth sports and enjoy volunteering and fundraising for causes that are important to me as well as the community,” Hemby said.

What qualifies you to serve on the school board?

At this point in my life I feel that I have the time and energy to dedicate to the Board of Education.  Three years on the board for me just wasn't enough. It seems like I was just getting me feet wet and learning the ropes so to speak after the second year. I was fortunate enough to sit as vice president under Elizabeth Kotz, who at the time was president, and she mentored me in many ways that helped me perform my duties as president this current year.

Why do you want another term on the school board?

We are very fortunate to have Superintendent Dr. Lois Favre in our district and she is a pleasure to work with. I feel she brings very fresh and very direct working style and I look forward to assisting with the growth of the district both in education as well as enrollment!

The current sitting board is a wonderfully diverse group of community members, who think outside the box as well as voice their opinions when concern or progressive ideas come into play. We are a very fortunate community to have them volunteering their time.

If reelected, what will be your priorities for Bridgehampton School?

If re-elected, I would like to focus on assisting the school in growing as a whole. Growth in curriculum, enrollment, technology as well as space. We have an amazing administration staff, brilliant teaching staff, fabulous children and a community that supports us! Now is the time to move forward as a district and I would love nothing more that to be a part of it.

The will take place May 17 from 2 to 8 p.m. at the gymnasium.
