Architects Awarded for School Expansion

BBS Architects & Engineers recognized by School Planning & Management magazine for work at Southampton Elementary School.

BBS Architects & Engineers of Patchogue recently won an award in the Site Selection & Development category of School Planning & Management magazine’s 2011 Sustainability & Innovation Awards program for the renovation and expansion of .

The project included construction of a three-story, 25,500-square-foot classroom addition, a new maintenance building and improvements to the athletic fields and the school site. The new wing opened in 2009.

In the same round of awards, BBS was also cited for the Mullarkey Hall renovation at the Long Island University’s CW Post Campus in Brookville and on the Building as a Teaching Tool category for the new Life Sciences Building at the Suffolk County Community College in Selden.

"The annual competition recognizes the most architecturally and technically advanced sustainable design practices in the United States," a BBS statement reads.

“We are very proud to receive recognition for BBS’ sustainable design work,” said BBS President and Lead Architect Roger P. Smith.  “The 2011 Sustainability & Innovation Awards highlight not only our firm’s green design and engineering expertise but also the fact that Long Island and the Greater New York area lead the nation in architectural creativity and environmentally conscious development practices.”

BBS also designed , the first LEED-certified public school in New York State, "indicating a very high level of environmental sustainability in design and construction practices."

In January 2011, BBS Architects & Engineers' work at Southampton Elementary School was in American School & University magazine.
