5 THINGS: Football, Acting and Dancing

Check out these five things and more in today’s Five Things column.

Here are the (more than) Five Things for Wednesday, November 28, 2012:

Story time! There are stories for kids from ages 3 to 5 at 10:30 a.m. at Peace Dale Library.

Dance time! There are a slew of dancing lessons at the tower tonight, starting at 6 p.m. and running until 10:30 p.m. Admission is $15 to $22, depending on how many sessions you want to attend.

Acting time! The Contemporary Theater Company hosts acting lessons at 5 p.m. The cost is $10, and they do take place every Wednesday, in case you can’t make this one session.

“The best reason I can think of for not running for President of the United States is that you have to shave twice a day.” – Adlai Stevenson. Here are today’s government meetings:

  • The South Kingstown Zoning Board of Review meets at 7 p.m. at town hall.
  • The Narragansett Economic Development Committee meets at 7:30 p.m. at town hall, in the large board room.

RIDOT: Watch out for altered travel pattern! Route 1 North and South will have some diversions near the Pond Street and Salt Pond Road exits for bridge inspections. They’re taking place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, so add some extra time to your commute if you’re affected.

Oh no! Maybe there seriously aren’t that many events today, given that it’s Republic Day in Burundi. As a result, our events calendar for today is a bit barren. If you’re having an event, please let us know in the comments. Also, make sure it isn’t left out in the future – Submit it via this link (as long as you’re logged into your Patch account).

Santa AND Cookies!!! The South Kingstown Guild is holding a kids’ cookie creation class on Dec. 1, but they would like people to pre-register, for obvious reasons. For more information, click here. The class is aimed at children ages 5 to 10, and the cost is $12 per child. Also, the Guild is hosting Santa on Dec. 5, 6 and 7, but the program is limited to SK residents. For more info, click here.

Give the gift of food this holiday season. Children’s Dentistry of Wakefield is having a food drive from now until Dec. 19. For more info, click here.

Sign up for our daily newsletter! Hey, I realize we have a lot of neat features and knick-knacks on the site, so it can be confusing to keep up with it all. Want just one simple, easy to read daily digest? Sign up for our e-mail newsletter here then. It comes out between 6 a.m. and 7 a.m. roughly, every single day of the week. Amazing, I know!

For exploring the red planet, not Galilee or Bonnet Shores or the pier. On this day in 1964, NASA launched the Mariner 4 probe toward Mars.

Haaaaaaaa! Happy 63rd birthday to Paul Shaffer, the bandleader for David Letterman for plenty of years now.
