Rocky Quotes and Knock Out Roses

As I drove up to Warren’s Nursery this morning, I was pleasantly surprised that someone in the nursery had placed some Knock Out Roses and other perennials along the front fence.

I took a photo highlighting the Knock Out Roses because I love these spunky little guys with their rich, coral-red tone and also because they hold a bloom for an incredibly long time.

I was looking for a classic “Rocky quote” that could possibly summarize the inspiring zeal of these feisty little Knock Out Roses and I found some possibilities:

You’re gonna eat lightnin’ and you’re gonna crap thunder!

And then there’s this one:

Adrian: Why do you wanna fight?

Rocky: Because I can’t sing or dance.

I was also inspired by some Rocky dialogue:

Rocky: Adrian!

Adrian: Rocky.

If you aren’t into drinking raw-egg health shakes and jogging at dawn then simply planting a Knock Out Rose could be a first step towards gaining a new zeal for life and a sense of inspiration for ‘going the distance.’ You can appreciate their raw beauty as they hold up their bright petals and challenge the first snow fall to a test of ultimate endurance. Last winter I witnessed this mortal combat on our patio and I was duly impressed.

This week, the weather forecast for the Hamptons calls for six straight days of rain beginning today, Friday. But, looking on the bright side, this rain will help to jump start transplanted perennials such as Knock Out Roses and get them strengthened up for those dog days of summer, the brisk winds of fall and, in the case of Knock Out Roses, for that ultimate bout with winter.
