Weeklong Wait Expected for Kabot Vote Count

Write-in votes for Southampton Town supervisor will not be counted until a week after Election Day, 27east reports.

It will be a week or more past Election Day when the Suffolk County Board of Elections reveals how many write-in votes were cast for former Southampton Town Supervisor on Tuesday, 27east reports.

With no challenger on the ballot to face incumbent Supervisor , who defeated Kabot two years ago, the former supervisor decided to wage a write-in campaign. If Throne-Holst receives more than 50 percent of all votes cast in person and by absentee ballot, her victory will be clear on Tuesday night. But if she receives any fewer than half, the election results will remain a mystery until the board of elections counts all write-ins and absentee ballots. Even then, ballots and write-ins may be challenged and go to court, but that scenario is only likely in a close race.
