Village Voters Approve Greater Retirement Payments for Ambulance Volunteers

Also, Southampton Village mayor and trustees re-elected during uncontested vote.

Southampton Village residents voted Friday to return Mayor Mark Epley and Trustees Nancy McGann and William Hattrick to the Village Board for another two years and also approved a proposition that increases retirement payments to ambulance volunteers.

Epley received 161 votes, Hattrick had 162 and McGann received 148. They were all unopposed on the ballot in their re-election bids.

The retirement incentive comes under LOSAP — the Length of Service Award Program, which provides retirement payments to volunteers who gave a minimum of five years.

Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance members had been offered a benefit of $20 per month for every year of service. Now that the ballot measure was adopted by a vote of 149 to 31, the incentive level is raised to $30, to match the plan the Southampton Fire Department offers.

There were 172 residents who voted. In the mayoral race, there were two write-in votes each for Jay Diesing and Jackie Scerbinski and one each for Susan Stevenson and Noel Hare.
