Tuesday's Bishop - Altschuler Debate Canceled Due to Hurricane Sandy

Business alliances call off congressional debate.

What was going to be the final congressional debate on the South Fork between U.S. Rep. Tim Bishop and challenger Randy Altschuler has been canceled.

The debate was scheduled for Tuesday evening in Bridgehampton, but with the East End already feeling the effects of Hurricane Sandy and the impact only expected to get worse, the hosts have called it off.

The Southampton Business Alliance and the East Hampton Business Alliance were to co-host the debate at the Bridgehampton Community House. It was going to take place with just one week to go before Election Day, so there was no time left to reschedule it.

For those who haven't seen the two debate yet this election season, 27east.com has a video posted online of the candidates' Oct. 15 debate in Bridgehampton.

The hurricane also caused South Fork school districts to close on Monday, with several school districts already anticipating canceling classes on Tuesday as well. Many libraries were closed on Monday, and several businesses either never opened or closed early.
