Town Plans Probe of Police Department

Town supervisor asks for investigation, 27east reports.

With allegations flying regarding the Southampton Town Police Department, its evidence handling and its defunct Street Crime Unit — and a Suffolk district attorney's office investigation ongoing for months — Town Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst called this week for the Town Board's own probe of the department, 27east reports.

According to 27east, Throne-Holst said he has asked the other members of the Town Board to agree on hiring an outside firm for the investigation.

The scope of the probe would include a review of department policies, a forensic investigation of missing evidence, and a look at what led to charges against convicts being thrown out, the reports states.
