Town Awards Grants for Youth Community Service Projects

For the third year, Southampton Town is investing in its youth by encouraging them to give back.

For the third year in a row, Southampton Town is investing in its youth and supporting their efforts to give back to the community.

The Southampton Youth Bureau and Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst are encouraging local community service projects by groups of young people throughout town.

Through the Town’s Youth Advisory Committee, grants of up to $250 will be awarded to support local youth groups and organizations as they carry out community service projects designed to help their neighborhoods and their neighbors.

“Volunteer service creates an opportunity for young people to interact with and support members of our community they might not otherwise have the chance to work with – seniors and veterans, for example – and  to experience a joint sense of purpose and contribution,” Throne-Holst said.

“I’ve seen volunteer work unify young people in a positive way and inspire them to continue working to serve the public,” she said.  “This is the third year we have offered the program and it’s been really exciting to see the kinds of project students come forward with,” she added.
