Village Fights County's Sump Plan

Residents near proposed site fear an eyesore that will attract rodents and mosquitoes, 27east reports.

Suffolk County's plan to dig a sump on North Main Street to collect stormwater runoff from County Road 39A is being met with opposition from officials and residents who fear the sump will tarnish an undeveloped entrance to the village, according to a report.

The sump, a catch basin to prevent water from puddling on the road, would be dug on a county-owned wooded parcel and surrounded by a fence, 27east reports. The construction of the sump is part of a $5 million to alleviate traffic.
