Southampton Candidates Take Campaigns to the Web

Candidates are using YouTube to spread their campaign messages.

A number of candidates in Southampton Town, including Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst, write-in candidate Linda Kabot, and town board candidates , and have taken their campaigns to the web, spreading their radio ads and other messages through YouTube channels and their campaign websites.

The Fleming campaign on Wednesday released a 3-minute video to YouTube cut from a recent debate to contrast her and Bender's performance at the debate against the performance of their opponents in the town board race, Hughes and . Several testimonials about her by constituents are posted to the southamptondemocrats YouTube channel.

Hughes has a YouTube channel, Hughes4Southampton, for his campaign including a video of his remarks at a 9/11 ceremony and a radio spot.

Brad Bender's campaign website features several video interviews with him on topics such as his background, his community involvement and government.

Two of Kabot's radio ads are posted to YouTube. One drives home the spelling of her name with a jingle, since she is a write-in candidate and needs voters to know how to spell her name correctly. The second goes after Throne-Holst for comments the incumbent supervisor made after Kabot was charged with DWI in 2009 — a charge she was later  of.

Throne-Holst's campaign poured upwards of $15,000 into a short documentary for her campaign posted to southamptonproject.com. The Southampton Town Republican Committee about the video, because some scenes were shot inside town hall and Throne-Holst makes a call to a town employee from her car. Throne-Holst told Patch the video does not violate the ethics code, and the Democratic committee chairman, Gordon Herr, said the accusation was "pathetic" and show "how desperate" the Republicans are. As of Wednesday night, the video had 1,649 views on YouTube.
