Update: Shinnecock Nation Plans Run-Off Election
King and Smith win. Bess and Gumbs will face off for third trustee seat.
For the first time since its three-trustee system took effect in 1792, the has had a tie in its annual election.
Incumbent Lance Gumbs, who has served eight one-year terms, and former trustee Fred Bess, who has served five terms, will face off in a run-off election for the third trustee seat on Tuesday.
Shinnecock Tribal Trustees Chairman Randy King was reelected for a sixth term and Gerrod Smith was elected for the first time. Incumbent Gordell Wright lost his bid for reelection.

Spokeswoman Beverly Jensen said tribe policy is not to release how many votes individuals garnered, only the names of who won.
The run-off election will be held at the Shinnecock Community Center on Church Street on the reservation April 12 between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
