Sandy Aid Application Assistance Coming Tuesday

The NYS Department of Financial Service is coming to Southampton May 7.

The New York State Department of Financial Services is sending its mobile unit to Southampton next Tuesday to assist East End residents and business owners affected by Superstorm Sandy in applying for aid.

On May 7 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., the DFS will be stationed at Rogers Memorial Library in Southampton Village.

DFS representatives will be available to guide residents through applying to receive housing or business recovery assistance and to navigate insurance-related issues, according to a statement from U.S. Rep. Tim Bishop’s office.

“We fought hard for the federal aid Long Island deserves to recover from this devastating storm, and I urge those affected to apply for the support you need for your home or business,” Bishop said in a statement. “Attending this session is not a requirement to access aid; however, it will be especially useful for senior citizens and others who are not as comfortable using computer-based forms.”

Those comfortable applying online may visit nysandyhelp.ny.gov to start the process. New York State residents may also use the hotline at 1-855-NYS-SANDY, available between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

In addition to Sandy-related aid, the DFS can also help residents that suffered losses during Tropical Storm Irene in 2011.
