Protesters Crash Mitt Romney’s Hamptons Fundraiser [PHOTOS]

Police barricade keeps Progressives, Occupy groups far from $50,000-a-plate dinner at David Koch's mansion.

A blockade of local police, New York State troopers, a canine unit and federal authorities rushed in Sunday to keep several hundred protesters from disturbing billionaire David Koch's $50,000-per-person fundraiser for Gov. Mitt Romney's presidential run.

The dissenters gathered across from , arriving by car, bike, taxi and bus from New York City, and as far away as Norway. The crowd represented many activist groups, including Occupy Wall Street, MoveOn.org, Occupy the Hamptons, the Long Island Progressive Coalition, Service Employees International Union, Long Island Jobs with Justice, Greenpeace, Strong Economy for All Coalition, United New York, Suffolk Peace Network, Art Not War, Occupy Huntington, Align NY, NY Communities for Change, NYACLU, plus many unaffiliated people who wanted to have their voices heard. “Dissent IS Patriotic” was seen on many signs, banners and T-shirts.

An airplane flew over the protest and the Koch estate making certain fundraiser attendees, including Romney himself, would see the trailing a banner reading, “Romney Has A Koch Problem,” which inspired the protestors to chant “rehab, rehab, rehab.” A black Cadillac, MoveOn's “Romney Mobile,” arrived early covered with corporate logos and a dog strapped to the roof.

To the battle cry of the Occupy Wall Street movement, self proclaimed 99-percenters, the poster “Romney President of the 1%” echoed many of the objections, not only to Romney himself but also to his alliance with billionaires like David Koch and his brother Charles Koch, who have pledged tens of millions of dollars to defeat President Barack Obama in November.

Lisa Tyson, the director of the Long Island Progressive Coalition, stated in a  release handed out at the protest, “David Koch has done everything in his power to erode the few protections that we have for workers, for the environment and for clean elections. We may not be able to stop the fundraiser, but we can make sure that it’s clear to everyone who attends: if you’re siding with David Koch, you’re standing against the 99%.”

Concerned July 10, 2012 at 01:13 PM
bythe C, Nice try deflecting. I am not a Romney staffer. I am an independent, who by the way voted for Obama last time and for the last time! I call out ultra left news sources like Alternet. If you are reading that junk I can now understand how you have formed your view of the world. unfortunate.

Oh sure, $950 is a freaking joke of Biden - probably old clothes given away. And, $20 million was to other charities. So, you attack his religion - you Bigoted Imbicile. I am sure if he was Muslim, you'd love him. The only thing Obama has done was steal Romney's idea - no original thought there - and you bash the guy for the ACA.?? Idiot Dufus-Burger.

I will add, sometimes if we look at a pair and they are both going different ways, look deep and hopefully realize that your doing quite well and your individual character is better than what you see and deserve the best!

Republicans are busy abusing women by taking away planned parenthood and all kinds of other things. They are abusing children by privatizing schools and changing curriculums Abusing the poor by privatizing prisons.Yeah Republicans have class
North Fork Bob July 11, 2012 at 05:57 PM
A woman voting Republican is like a Jewish person voting for Hitler

Google Bush crime family or Union Bank 1942 to see what kind of people the bush crew is. Not to mention George is a war criminal for starting the Iraq war using lies. You will also see that the Bush family (Prescott) aided Hitler.Look it up and see for yourself
North Fork Bob July 11, 2012 at 06:24 PM
Have you seen how the Koch Brothers made some of their money? You aren't going to see these two in Heaven after poisoning little children in their operations
North Fork Bob July 11, 2012 at 06:32 PM
Romney's contribution is not to charity it is a tithe to his Church.
North Fork Bob July 11, 2012 at 06:42 PM
That was then and this is now. It's like saying 20 years ago I could have bought that house for 50 grand now it's 750 thousand. The student loans would be much lower if these kids could get jobs. They should get the same rates the banks get from the Fed .0001%
North Fork Bob July 11, 2012 at 07:02 PM
There is a slight change in the way the average person thinks. They are starting to realize that it was the banks that caused this calamity. They are coming around to the truth that the Banks own Congress and Obama. Iraq combat Veterans are throwing their medals away.We are coming to the common conclusion that we've all been duped. Once more people have this mindset true reform will begin. It will be soon
North Fork Bob July 11, 2012 at 07:16 PM
If this system was fair and unemployment was about 5% those kids wouldn't have been there.
North Fork Bob July 11, 2012 at 07:21 PM
The only reason Obama won the Peace Prize is because the International community was ecstatic about getting Bush out of office
North Fork Bob July 11, 2012 at 07:27 PM
Romney pays under 15% I pay much more than that and by the way how does he have 102 million in his IRA? The maximum you can add is 6,000.00 a year
Petey July 14, 2012 at 03:05 PM
Let me get a couple things straight. It is a HUGE problem that Romney had a $50K a plate fundraiser and has so many rich supporters but the Obama fundraiser at George Clooney's house for $40K in 2008 was fine? Why what is the difference? You ARE kidding me. Here is another fun fact for you, Ann Romney drew criticism for spending $1,000 of her OWN money on a blouse but Michelle Obama spent $500,000 on ONE vacation and this is ok? Where do you think this money came from? Obama makes less than that in a year so what do you think? It came from YOU! And even if it WAS his money you think someone who allows their wife spend more than their annual salary on one of however many vacations knows how to budget money? I don't think so! Romney is also so selfish right and hoarding all his money? What about the fact he donated $20M to charity last year alone? What a jerk huh? Guess who much your multi millionaire vice president donated? $950! That's a fact folks. Those who say he "inherited this mess" must be joking. When Obama ran for office he was aware of our country's state. He still stood there and spewed promise after promise so regardless of what was inherited or not, Obama promised he could fix it anyway. As far a Barry's comment, I am speechless. Do you not watch the new or read the newspaper? That is the most ridiculous, uniformed post I have ever read. I can only hope that you are not a registered voter.

I truely believe you, Hazel Wilkonson, are the meanest most nasty person to ever post on The Patch.. After looking at your many posts you are not worth the time of day to make any attempt in engaging in any discussion. Your typical liberal antics are unreal.Hasta leugo !!!

SashaK, you have zero credibility, babe. You are clearly just another among a long line of ditto-head baggers on this site. Take a look at some of the sh** preliar has to say. Oh, yeah, that's right, he agrees with you! Pathetic.
