Noyac Road Safety Measures Still Planned
The town is not abandoning plans to reconfigure an accident-prone stretch of road, The Sag Harbor Express reports.
Southampton Town Councilwoman Bridget Fleming says that, despite a recent alert from a local bicyclist group to the contrary, the town is still committed to restructuring Noyac Road to make it safer for motorists and bicyclists alike, The Sag Harbor Express reports.
The specific stretch is between Elm Street and Cedar Lane, including a bend in the road and the Whalebone General Store and Cromers Market shopping complex. There were 47 car accidents from 2008 to 2010 in the area, Highway Superintendent Alex Gregor said during a Feb. 10 discussion with the Town Board, according to The Express. The town has been considering traffic calming measures since 2003 and set aside money in 2009, but the work has yet to begin as the community is undecided on the best method, the report states.
