Local Watch Party Planned for State of the Union

It’s getting to be that time of year. You know, when passions run high, when normally mild-mannered people gather around a plate of nachos or Buffalo wings and hoot and holler or boo and hiss at the television. No, it’s not quite yet Super Bowl Sunday. Tuesday is the day of the State of the Union, and there are watch parties for those looking to catch the president’s speech with like-minded fans.

The Obama Biden website allows supporters to look up watch parties by ZIP code. On the South Fork, Monica Belizan will host a watch party in Sag Harbor with wine and chili. For details and to RSVP, click here.

Patch was unable to find local watch parties being hosted by Republicans or tea partyers.

The speech is likely to focus on the theme of economic inequality and will offer a glimpse of Obama’s re-election campaign themes.

According to CNN.com, Americans can expect to hear about topics such as:

• Tax increases for the wealthy and the expiration of the Bush tax cuts
• Helpfor homeowners struggling to pay their mortgages
• Tax breaks for companies that return jobs to the United States
• Increased incentives for clean energy, education and job-training for people seeking technical degrees
