League of Women Voters Plans Voter Registration Day

LWV of the Hamptons will be at 15 sites across the South Fork on Sept. 25 for National Voter Registration Day.

On the inaugural National Voter Registration Day, Sept. 25, the League of Women Voters of the Hamptons will be at 15 sites stretching from Montauk to Westhampton Beach to register new voters in time for the presidential election.

National Voter Registration Day, an initiative by a network of local, state and national organizations across the U.S., is designed to draw attention to voter registration deadlines.

“Anyone who was not registered previously, or who has moved, or who has changed his or her name needs to fill out a voter registration form,” said Anne Marshall, the voter services chair of the LWV of the Hamptons. “We hope you will stop by one of our tables, where we will also be glad to answer any of your questions.”

League members will offer voter registration forms and absentee ballot applications in both English and Spanish. Weather permitting, members will be registering voters primarily between 10 a.m. and noon.

Registrants should know the last four digits of their Social Security number, or their New York State ID number, on their driver's license, Vice President Arlene Hinkemeyer said. Those who don't have either at hand can still register, but they will be prompted to show ID the first time they vote.
