Know a Southampton Senior Citizen Who Deserves Recognition?

Nominations open for Suffolk County Senior Citizen Award.

Do you know someone in Southampton Town who deserves to be named the Senior Citizen of the Year in Suffolk County?

County Executive Steve Bellone and the Suffolk County Senior Citizen Advisory Board announced Friday that the Suffolk County Office for the Aging is accepting nominations.

The award recognizes someone who is 60 years of age or older who has "significantly contributed to other seniors in a meaningful and important way, either as an advocate, role model, leader, or volunteer," Bellone said in a statement. "This impact can be felt either countywide, or in one of the local communities."

There are only a few weeks left to get in nominations. They must be received no later than March 14.

Nominations should be made on a specific form (which is attached to this post, as a PDF below the photo.) You must include the nominee’s name, address, and phone number, along with an explanation of why he or she deserves the nomination. Candidates must be residents of the county. Employees of federal, state, county or local municipalities engaged in providing services to senior citizens are not eligible.

This winner will be presented with the award at the Senior Celebration Luncheon sponsored by the Office for the Aging and senior citizen advisory board on May 8 at Villa Lombardi’s in Holbrook.

Nominations should be mailed to Senior Award, Suffolk County Office for the Aging, PO Box 6100, Hauppauge, NY, 11788-0099 or faxed to 631-853-8225.
