Kabot Creates New Party Line in Bid for Supervisor Seat

Republican candidate for Southampton Town Supervisor has filed papers to create a new party line, which she believes will help her win back her seat as Southampton Supervisor.

On Tuesday afternoon, Kabot submitted 1,170 signatures — 242 more than required — to the Suffolk County Board of elections for the new party, which she is calling, "Southampton Now," which bears the emblem, "þ."

Kabot said she formed the party as not only a way to obtain more votes, but also because she said she believes that "up-island political party bosses should not have control over the ballot" and whose names appear on them.

"Let the people who live here in Southampton Town decide who best represents their interests,” she said.

Through her party line, Kabot is also supporting Stan Glinka and Jeff Mansfield, who also have the republican nod for town council. They are facing off against Democratic candidates Brad Bender and Frank Zappone.

In addition to her new line, Kabot, a Quogue resident, is also seeking support on the Conservative ticket via a September 10 primary race.

Howard Heckman III, a registered Conservative from Eastport, has the nod for supervisor on the Conservative line, and in July, Kabot, who is not a registered Conservative, filed a petition to wage a primary race for the Conservative ticket. She also filed an “Opportunity to Ballot,” under Election Law, which will allow conservative voters to write-in the name of a candidate on Primary day.

Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst, who faced Kabot for the supervisor seat in 2009 and 2011, winning both times, could not be immediately reached for comment.
