Guldi Gets Concurrent Sentence; D.A. 'Shocked and Disappointed'

Former Suffolk legislator gets one to three years to run concurrent with existing sentence for pleading guilty to 35 crimes.

After , former Suffolk Legislator George Guldi on Wednesday was sentenced to one to three years in prison, to run concurrent with an existing sentence, for

The plea deal adds no new time to current four- to 12-year sentence, as was expected after the July court appearance.

Guldi is currently serving his sentence at the Suffolk County Jail in Riverside.

District Attorney Thomas Spota, who expressed disappointment upon hearing the sentence promised by Supreme Court Justice James F.X. Doyle in July, reiterated his sentiments this week.

"I am gratified that the defendant has finally after much posturing pled guilty and accepted full responsibility for his criminal conduct," said Spota through spokesman Bob Clifford. "I am shocked and disappointed that over our objection the judge has promised the defendant a sentence that is completely inadequate to punish him and to deter the massive mortgage fraud that has so severely impacted our local economy."

The D.A. was pushing for an eight and one-third to 25 years in prison to run consecutive with a sentence of four to 12 years Guldi is currently serving for a prior insurance fraud conviction.
