Frederick Havemeyer, of Bridgehampton, has served as a town trustee for the past 10 years. He is looking to continue that service.
Havemeyer, who is a registered Republican, cross-endorsed by the Democratic, Conservative, and Independence parties, is a graduate of New York University and holds a Bachelor of Science degree. He majored in business, marketing and advertising.
He says he has refrained from joining any area organizations to remain impartial as a trustee.
Havemeyer in his own words:
I am seeking a sixth term as Southampton Town Trustee because I firmly believe that Southampton is a wonderful place to live. We have everything, beautiful beaches, bays, freshwater lakes and ponds, wonderful fishing and shellfishing. In the winter our waters are filled with shore birds and waterfowl. Don't forget our open spaces, thanks to purchases by the Community Preservation Fund.
The Southampton Town Trustees are an integral part of Southampton Town since for over 300 years it has been our job as overseers to preserve and protect the Town's natural resources.
I am a third generation resident of Southampton Town, and my wife, Cecile, and I have raised our two children, Charlotte and Freddy, in Bridgehampton. Our children went to local schools and on to good colleges. Both of our children have been brought up intimately involved with the outdoors. They know every bird and fish that lives here and when and where to expect to see them. We fish together, swim together and go out in the marshes together. It is a wonderful life, and I know that they have benefitted from it.
I was one of the early surfers out here, and spent countless hours in the surf and on the beaches. If you want to know how the beaches and the ocean work, ask a surfer. My love for the ocean and fishing led me into a career as a professional sport fishing captain. I spent thousands of hours on the ocean here and in other parts of the World catching Marlin, Tuna, and Swordfish. A large percentage of these fish were tagged and released, unharmed, for science.
All this experience on and in the water has enabled me to bring the Trustees a hands on perspective to aide in the protection and preservation of our unique natural resources.
I am also hands on as a trustee. I am in the office every day. I deal, fairly, with every issue and return all my phone calls promptly. My emphasis is on keeping Southampton Town the wonderful place that it is and making sure that the residents will always have access to these wonderful publicly owned lands and waters.
Please vote for me for a sixth term as trustee as there is still a lot of work to be done, and I want to be able to do the right thing for all of you.
