Election Notebook: Kabot Seeks Another Party Line

Also in Southampton Town campaign news, Betts bets on Working Families.

Linda Kabot, the former town supervisor who is hoping to retake the seat, announced Friday that she is seeking another party line on the November ballot — giving those who do not wish to vote on the Republican line another way of voting for her.

In order to gain the extra line, Kabot and her supporters will need to collect 928 valid signatures from enrolled voters in Southampton Town. Voters who have already signed a nominating petition for supervisor or town council in 2013 will not be able to sign the new petition. Kabot said she and her team will be going door-to-door to get 1,000 signatures in time for the Aug. 20 deadline.

In 2007 and 2009, she did the same under the name Integrity Party.  This time, Kabot has dubbed her independent nominating petition "Southampton Now."

According to Kabot, both unaffiliated voters and voters who are registered with a party can sign her petition. The Southampton Now petition also seeks to put Town Council nominees Stan Glinka and Jeff Mansfield and and trustees nominee Ray Overton on the line. The three men are Republicans with their party's backing and the backing of the Conservative Party.

In July, 27east reported that Kabot has challenged the Conservative Party's nomination of Howard Heckman III in the supervisor race and is seeking a primary battle for the Conservative Line.  Kabot said she is asking Conservatives to write her name in during the Sept. 10 primary.

Betts Seeks Working Families Primary

David Betts, the Republican nominee for town highway superintendent, who boasts the Conservative Party endorsement as well, is vying for a chance to wage a primary battle for the Working Families Party line.

Betts, a North Sea resident and the current chief town investigator for Southampton Town, is seeking to unseat incumbent Highway Superintendent Alex Gregor, of Hampton Bays, who is a member of the Independence Party with the Democratic endorsement. Gregor also has the Working Families party endorsement, but Betts hopes to seize it by having registered members of the party write his name in on Primary Day, Sept. 10.
