Conservatives to Protest Progressives Picketing Romney

As liberal and progressive groups protest outside a Mitt Romney fundraiser Sunday, conservatives will provide a counterbalance.

Left-wing groups planning to descend on Southampton Village to a $50,000-per-guest will not be the only ones marching up and down Meadow Lane on Sunday.

Conservatives now plan to hold a counter-protest during the demonstration by the Long Island Progressive Coalition, MoveOn.org and several like-minded organizations.

Liberal and progressive groups say they will be there outside billionaire industrialist David Koch's oceanfront estate to protest "money in politics."  But conservatives say they will march down Meadow Lane to the front to Koch's home to welcome the GOP presidential contender with a cheer.

The event at the Koch estate is one of three fundraisers Romney has planned in the Hamptons Sunday, though this particular fundraiser is targeted because of Koch's advocacy, and large donations, for conservative causes.

The liberal groups plan to convene in the parking lot at 3 p.m. then march west down Meadow Lane with banners to the front of Koch's estate to "nonviolently disrupt" the fundraiser. Meanwhile, starting at 3:30 p.m., conservatives, including members of the East End Tea Party — who have been invited to join, though they are not they are not organizers of the counter-protest  — will convene at the . They will then march east with American flags and placards, meeting their liberal counterparts at the Koch estate.

Overhead, there is slated to be a plane hired by MoveOn.org to pull a banner that reads "Romney has a Koch problem.”

Not all who are opposed to Romney are "left-wing." Many of us are average, middle class people who believe that it should be "one person, one vote" instead of "one dollar, one vote."

Were you ok when Obama out-campaigned McCain in 2008? Obama was against PAC money until he raised way more money than McCain, now he is against PAC money - Flipper.

LOVE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ty Wenzel July 08, 2012 at 12:54 PM
Kochs hired "protesters" ... everyone knows teabaggers are owned by the Kochs to give conservatives a "grassroots" feel.. And I'll bet Mitt will shuttle his paid "supporters" in from wherever... Folks, this is how your democracy is bought.
The Southamptonian July 08, 2012 at 01:00 PM
Ah gotta love that horse race politics. "Left wing" protesters protesting a private event normally not covered with a heavy media presence? Check. "Right Wing" protesters protesting the protesters who are protesting. Completely reactionary and unneeded, as the best case scenario for these campers is actually drawing enough media attention to the "others" Largely this is indicative of a problem I see with a slow reoccurrence across time: A bunch of ideologues and assholes are going to ruin their own day and probably others while a bunch of rich people behind walls (read: Large-ass hedges) get to dine on some laughably hyped-up food for laughably inflated prices. At the end of the day who is the real loser? The protesters outside wasting a gorgeous day like today or the people that wasted a cool million so that they could suck up to a presidential nominee while sipping overpriced cocktails that you could make on a Child Worker's wage?

All we have is Mitt -- be good to Mitt -- America's next President -- just think, a real adult in the white house at last!!
Jaguar-Guy July 08, 2012 at 01:39 PM
Hey Ty, that is like a right-wing loon saying Soros created OWS. Why do you and Hazel repeatedly write Teabagger ?? I think they must be on your minds too much.
Harry R. Burger July 08, 2012 at 01:53 PM
Tea Partiers start from the helipad because Koch brothers are probably flying them in through there. News media Kochs own will selectively shoot the film so it looks like TP came in droves, OWS lightly attended and disorganized.

To not understand that both Obama and Romney are fundraising from major donors simultaneously requires extreme tunnel vision.
Faustina July 08, 2012 at 03:44 PM
This just proves conservatives never have an original idea or plan. As at medieval feasts, perhaps the hedge-fund and oil lords will spray heir slaves with hoses if it gets to hot and send out some cheap Mad Donald's food to feed them. The Koch destabilizer should be indicted, as for the fool Romney he is weighing in at even stupider and more crass than Bush! Now that's a feat.

We have a democracy? End the Fed and things will be a little more equal
North Fork Bob July 08, 2012 at 04:56 PM
Christie did you think Bush was a real adult because he started an illegal and immoral war? Besides the poor troops that died there are many thousands who will suffer for the rest of their lives from all kinds of injuries.
Ralebird July 08, 2012 at 05:40 PM
I have one word for the protesters on both the red and blue teams: Sunscreen!
North Fork Bob July 08, 2012 at 06:34 PM
750 black youth rioted in Riverhead last night. That's about 15 miles from Southampton. I'm sure that the 40% unemployment rate among young blacks had quite a bit to do with it. It took the cops 2 hours to quell the disturbance.Another casualty of the banks destroying our economy.
David D'Agostino July 08, 2012 at 06:48 PM
Exactly right, Ty. Needless to say, the Romney protesters will be peaceful and civil while the teapartiers will go out of their way to cause trouble. Brendan, the Kock protesters are not necessarily "left wing". There are many from both sides of the aisle that want money out of politics. See you all there!
David D'Agostino July 08, 2012 at 06:49 PM
GJ, great advice! And don't forget water.

Meadow Lane July 08, 2012 at 07:32 PM
Seriously, who give a rats arse who protests? This is like a game of "Who can pee further up a rope".
GQuik July 08, 2012 at 08:18 PM
Meadow lane,, that would be more entertaining:)
Cosmo Kramer July 08, 2012 at 10:41 PM
David, I don't recall any arrests, anarchists, vandalism or violence at any tea party rallies. How does that compare with left wing fanatical demonstrations? You've got it backwards, which just proves how deluded some of your cohorts truly are. Can you spell hypocrite? There has already been at least 2 reported arrests of these people, so much for peaceful and lawful. These demonstrators don't speak for us all, and certainly don't have a logical well thought out alternative to a change in this administration, which is what we need. Not another 4 years.
Dan July 08, 2012 at 10:50 PM
Then you should be on board the Romney bus. I believe Obama was the first President to hint at a ONE BILLION dollar capmaign. Its also Obama that asked people to forgo wedding, birthday and graduation gifts and donate that money to his campaign. Total arrogance!!!!!!
Dan July 08, 2012 at 10:52 PM
Hey Cadet Wenzel how's the view from space?
jolly Roger July 09, 2012 at 12:45 AM
Who's David Koch... George Soros's (who lives around the corner) Twin brother with a different view? Oh I'm sorry how dare I say that.
Chas Holman July 09, 2012 at 03:09 AM
I can only imagine the look of fear that would be on Luvy and Thurston's faces had those 'commoners' made it into the actual neighboorhood.

a real adult? a real adult larvae on its way to worming his way into politics off the largesse of his poppy & the Mormon Church? What an American hero, this true adult of the people! A real adult larvae on its way to worming his onto political capital off the millions of manufacturing jobs he shipped off shore causing high unemployment, but still admired by those who think business justifies immorality even to the detriment of the nation? A real adult larvae on it way to worming its way into the off shore bank accounts where he parks large part of his money to avoid paying taxes like the hoi poloi smucks in the U.S. who pay theirs.. He likes it offshore. an adult larvae that worms his way into popularity in liberal Mass. by signing a bill requiring an individual mandate to provide for near universal medical coverage, but now worms down harder to say his plan is not the Obama plan at all. Nowhere near it. Not home. Sorry, it was all a mistake. No cigar! This adult Bishop in the Mormon Church who denies he is against gay unions, women's health programs, but promises to shut down Planned Parenthood & defund education and senior/child nutrition programs. An adult larvae who states he would extend & make permanent Bush's tax cut for the wealthiest, end any inheritance tax , end capital gains tax, bring down corporate taxes & a tax holiday on money held in off-shore bank accounts when repatriated back into the U.S. banks. Yes, be good to Mitt a real American, a man of the people!

Liberal blah, liberal blah, blah blah.
Fredo Troy July 10, 2012 at 02:13 PM
The difference being that Obama still doesn't "support" PAC spending, but has to adapt the climate that he's in. He's getting way outspent in PAC funding + to not play the game would be suicide. As for Obama out-raising McCain, if Romney's funds were all coming from individual/grassroots support as opposed to from Koch + Adelson-types, I don't think there'd be much of a problem. @Dan - the model of having people forgo gifts in favor of donations to a cause the recipient supports has been around for years. It's not like Obama is asking people to send him their wedding blenders + toasters.
