Community Bids Adieu To 'The Cave'

The property will now be zoned residential, according to Southampton Town.

A long-abandoned and dilapidated nightclub, long considered by neighbors to be an eyesore on Montauk Highway in East Quogue, is gone forever.

Recently, a former nightclub known as The Cave was torn down to make way for a four-lot residential subdivision planned at the location.

The nightclub building, now an abandoned use, will revert back to its underlying residential zoning, according to Jennifer Garvey, deputy chief of staff at Southampton Town Supervisor Anna Throne-Holst's office.

According to Garvey, the Southampton Town planning board issued a resolution in October, 2013 to allow demolition of the former nightclub, which was a requirement of the subdivision and had been determined to be unsafe by the department of fire prevention.
