Clerk's Office Awarded Records Management Grant

New York State Education Department grants $12,258 to Southampton Town.

The New York State Department of Education’s Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund has one again awarded a records management grant to the clerk's office.

Town Clerk Sundy Schermeyer announced this week that the town has received another $12,258. Last year the town was .

"These grants are important to our local government because they are used to improve local record management systems, which in turn, allow the town to better serve the public," a clerk's office statement reads. "Grants were awarded across the state to support, promote and recognize sound archival and records management practices, as well as encourage creative and valuable uses of archival records."

According to the clerk's office, the funds awarded will be used to reorganize the town’s most voluminous records series made up of 700 cubic feet of land management planning records spanning from 1960 to the present.

"Over 1,200 requests for records are made each year for internal departmental use and in response to Freedom of Information Requests, this reorganization will improve efficiency in response times and prepare the records for future digitization," the statement continued. "All of the grants received to date have been used to improve the organization of the town’s archives and increase internal and public access through ongoing digitization projects."
