Bishop Rips GOP Bulb Bill Via Twitter

Using social media and sarcasm, Southampton congressman pokes fun at legislation that would repeal efficiency standards for light bulbs.

Over Twitter, , D-Southampton, @TimBishopNY, lashed out Tuesday at a Republican bill to repeal energy efficiency standards for light bulbs.

"GOP bill to repeal bulb standards not enough, must repeal whaling laws: bring back whale oil lamps, and freedom!" tweeted Bishop.

The sarcastic tweet links to a New York Times editorial criticizing Texas Republican Joe Barton's Better Use of Light Bulbs Act and other legislation that targets light bulb standards adopted in 2007 that are slated to take effect in 2012.

About an hour later, the same tweet was posted again, though this time it was directed at MSNBC host Rachel Maddow, @maddow, and the link to the Times editorial was not included.

Hey, republicans, where are the jobs?!
Bill O'Connell July 14, 2011 at 01:40 AM
Bishop outsourced them all to China to make light bulbs, just like he gave Chrysler your tax dollars to build a $570 million engine factory in Mexico.

The Chrysler bailout saved millions of jobs, created tens of thousands more and Chrysler paid back the money. Thank god for congress people like Tim Bishop. Just as in 1994, the right's contract on America will be shirt-lived.
