Woman Trapped Inside Elevator Rescued

Firefighters manually lowered the elevator so the woman could get out after it lost power.

The Southampton Fire Department was called to Lexus of Southampton on Friday morning when an elevator stopped working properly and a woman was trapped inside.

After firefighters arrived at the County Road 39A dealership after the 7:48 a.m. call, they found a woman who is part of the cleaning crew couldn't get out, Second Assistant Chief Chris Brenner said. The electric at the car dealership was operating at half-power, he said.

Crews were able to manually lower the elevator and free her within about 10 minutes of their arrival.

No injuries were reported.
