Woman Extricated From Car After CR 39 Accident

Firefighters free crash victim trapped in Volvo Monday afternoon.

Two crash victims, including a woman who was trapped in her Volvo, were taken to Monday afternoon following a two-car accident that closed County Road 39 for 20 minutes, according to a fire department spokesman.

Capt. Chris Brenner said the accident occurred around 3:40 p.m. near the Tuckahoe Road intersection on the north side of County Road 39. The vehicles ended up on Tuckahoe Road after colliding, but fire police had to close County Road 39 while rescue apparatus was brought in, he said. Hampton Bays firefighters were called in to assist the Southampton heavy rescue team.

“The fire department again did a great job in quickly extricating her from the Volvo," Brenner said, explaining that it was the second extrication rescue for the Southampton Fire Department within a couple days. Predawn on Saturday morning, firefighters responded to .

At Monday's accident scene, it was unclear what direction the vehicles had been traveling in, Brenner said, adding that the second vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage. transported the entrapped driver woman and a second victim to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, he said. First Assistant Chief Dennis Roy was in charge of the scene.
