Victor Weiss Found Safe in New York City

26-year-old was reported missing Thursday.

Victor Weiss, a 26-year-old Sag Harbor man who was reported missing Thursday, has been found in New York City, according to his family.

"He's safe and he is well," his mother, Meikle Blossom, told East Hampton Patch on Friday at about 11 a.m.

She said news reports helped to locate him. She said she did not want to say too much more, to respect her son's privacy.

Sag Harbor Village police took the missing person report on Thursday morning, and then contacted the New York City Police Department and MTA, according to Chief Thomas Fabiano. Though police on the North Fork are also searching for a missing person — 16-year-old Ashley Murray — Fabiano said on Friday, "I have no reason to believe the two are connected."

According to his mother, Weiss took a Hampton Jitney to the city on Wednesday morning. Fabiano said Weiss got off at the 39th Street stop and went to Penn Station.

"A college friend reported that they spoke Wednesday morning for an hour. Vic told him he was heading out to skate at Bryant Park," Blossom said. "Vic texted with an old friend, who is a musician, that he had a new hobby, dancing, and had found an inexpensive rental in Springs, at 12:43."

Fabiano confirmed that his cellphone was found at Penn Station.

His family previously said Weiss needed to get to a hospital, though they declined to give further details on his medical condition.

Weiss graduated from the State University of New York at Geneseo last May, and was living at home to save money while working in an East Hampton restaurant. His mother said he was working so hard that he already paid of two-thirds of his college loans in less than a year.

"He loves his job at Nick and Toni’s, especially the camaraderie among the staff, eating their 'family meals,' and learning about the world of fine dining. The chefs tease him about asking too many questions, his co-workers like the way he chips in to help others, and his sense of humor," Blossom said. "Vic’s been exploring competing restaurants regularly with his dad. Saturday night they went to Fresno. Vic liked it, but declared Nick and Toni’s better."

Nick and Toni's recently shut down for six weeks while it undergoes renovations.

His mother said he been working out at a local gym, honing his basketball skills. "He plays in pick up games several times a week with some of his Sag Harbor buddies, and his newer Springs friends," she said.

We are very happy for the Weiss-Blossom family that Victor Weiss is safe. Share your good wishes in the comments section below.
