Victim of 10-Foot Fall Airlifted to Hospital

Accident occurred on construction site in Southampton Village.

A man fell at a construction site and suffered a head injury in Southampton Village Monday morning, requiring him to be airlifted to Stony Brook, according to the ambulance chief.

Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance Chief Mark Klinger said the ambulance corps was called at 11:47 a.m. after the man fell 10 feet.

"Based on the dispatch information, the initial responding unit requested that a medevac helicopter be put on standby," Klinger said. "Upon assessment, it was determined that the patient had suffered a head and shoulder injury and met the specific criteria for transport by medevac to Stony Brook University Medical Center, the closest Level 1 trauma center."

The ambulance corps took the victim to a landing site at Wickapogue Road, where the Suffolk County helicopter picked him up.
