Veteran and Firefighter Red Herman Dies at 86

Visitation will be Monday, followed by a funeral service in Southampton Village Tuesday.

Edwin "Red" Townsend Herman died Friday at his Southampton residence at the age of 86.

A veteran of the Army Air Corps during World War II, he was a 50-year member and ex-captain of the Hose Co.

He is survived by two daughters, Nancy and Susan; a sister, Lana Luedeke and her husband, Hermann; a brother, Jerry Herman and his wife Mary, as well as six grandchildren.

Visitations will take place Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. at Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton Village. There will be firematic services Monday between 7:30 and 8 p.m. A funeral, officiated by the Rev. Peter Larsen, will take place Tuesday at 10 a.m.

An interment with military honors will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Sag Harbor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Village of Southampton WWI Memorial Restoration Project, 23 Main Street, Southampton, NY 11968 would be appreciated by the family.
