Two Treated for Smoke Inhalation After Condo Fire

A third occupant of the condo refused medical treatment, a fire department spokesman says.

Firefighters were stirred awake early Friday to respond to a condo fire on Hampton Road in Southampton Village that sent two occupants to to be treated for smoke inhalation.

“We got called at 5:14 this morning,” Capt. Chris Brenner said. “The first unit on scene reported heavy smoke.”

The fire was suppressed in 15 minutes and did not reach the neighboring condos at 570 Hampton Road, Brenner said. Firefighters were on scene for approximately two hours and a Southampton Town fire marshal remained at the condo to investigate, he said.

“There were three people inside,” Brenner said. “Two occupants went to the hospital with smoke inhalation; one lady refused medical attention.”

sent a truck to aid in fighting the fire and sent a rapid intervention team, in case a firefighter needed to be retrieved from the condo. , and responded for firefighter assessments, though no firefighters were sent to the hospital, Brenner said.
