Town Police Log: DWI, Heroin Possession Arrest

Police say unlicensed man was driving drunk and had heroin in a cigarette pack.

• Derek Quinn, 42, of Southampton, was arrested March 10 at 1:21 a.m. in Southampton at the intersection of Prospect Street West and North Sea Road, according to police. Quinn was charged with DWI, aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle in the third degree (due to a suspended license) and speeding, police said. Officers said Quinn was additionally charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree for possessing a small quantity of heroin that was recovered from a Newport cigarette box on the passenger seat of his vehicle.

• Paul Pavia, 40, of East Hampton, was arrested March 7 at 1:43 p.m. at the intersection of Magee Street and County Road 39 in Southampton and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor. Pavia was additionally charged with refusing a breath screening test for alcohol, police said. Police said another driver on the road called in to complain about an erratic driver just before Pavia’s arrest. Police said Pavia was located in a Magee Street parking lot with the car in drive and motor running.

• Jamal Hires, 20, of Bridgehampton, was arrested on the Sag Harbor Turnpike March 9 at 4:05 p.m. and charged with driving while impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor, and unlawful possession of marijuana, a violation. After officers administrated field sobriety tests, Hires was taken into custody, police said.

• Franklin Pucuna, 29, of East Hampton, was arrested March 11 in Southampton on County Road 39 at 2:48 p.m. He was charged with DWI with a blood alcohol content of .08 or higher, a misdemeanor. Police said they stopped Pucuna after they observed him crossing the road's solid white shoulder line twice.
