Town Police Log: Drunk Driver Stops in Traffic, Falls in Road

Also in the blotter this week, a DWI suspect reportedly told a cop "You are right. I am drunk." after almost hitting the officer's police car.

Arrest reports from the Southampton Town Police Department for the week of May 13 to May 19 for east of the Shinnecock Canal:

Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance

• Kevin Michael McCarthy, 28, of Sabastian, Fla., was arrested May 18 at 4:23 a.m. at a home on Millstone Road in Noyac and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree, a misdemeanor. According to the arrest report, an officer was called to the address for a report of an unresponsive man. When the officer arrived, McCarthy was conscious and alert, but highly intoxicated with heroin on him, the report states. Sag Harbor Volunteer Ambulance Corps took McCarthy to Southampton Hospital, where he was treated then released into police custody.

Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated

• Jeremy A. Kasma, 32, of Southampton, was arrested May 15 at 1:55 a.m near the intersection of Noyac Road and Fish Cove Road in Noyac and charged with aggravated DWI, a misdemeanor, and speeding, a traffic violation. Police said Kasma was pulled over for multiple traffic violations and was found to be drunk.

Driving While Intoxicated

• Donna Marie Hippner, 54, of Southampton, was arrested on a misdemeanor DWI charge after she stopped in traffic on Cove Road in North Sea, got out of her vehicle and fell down in the roadway numerous times, according to an arrest report. An off-duty police officer then approached Hippner and identified himself, the report states. The incident occurred on May 13 around 7 p.m., police said. Another officer took Hippner to Southampton Hospital for evaluation.

• Jill Commins-Lance, 51, of Waterford, Conn., was arrested May 18 at 11:16 p.m. on Short Beach Road on North Haven and charged with DWI, a misdemeanor, and failure to keep right, a traffic infraction. According to the arrest report, Commins-Lance almost hit a police car that was parked on the median of a traffic circle. The report states that Commins-Lance smelled of alcohol and told the arrested officer, "You are right. I am drunk."
