Town Police Log: Driver Charged After Striking Guardrail

Cops say woman was under the influence of Xanax and alcohol during crash.

Arrest reports from the east of the Shinnecock Canal during the week of July 22 to 28:

Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and Alcohol

• Nicola L. Clayton, 53, of Manhattan, was arrested July 25 at 12:26 a.m. near the intersection of Hampton Road North and Noyac Road in Noyac and charged with driving while ability impaired by a combination of drugs and alcohol, a misdemeanor. Police said Clayton was arrested after her 1992 Mazda hit a guardrail when it was found that she had alcohol on her breath and was under the influence of prescribed Xanax.

Petty Larceny

• A 27-year-old Southampton woman turned herself in at police headquarters in Hampton Bays on July 24 for a May 3 incident of petty larceny, a misdemeanor. According to the arrest report, the incident took place on Koral Drive in Shinnecock Hills.

• A 53-year-old homeless man was arrested for shoplifting at the Bridgehampton Commons July 24 at 6:55 p.m. after a store employee saw him put items into his pocket then leave without paying, according to an arrest report. The report stated that he was held by store management until a police officer arrived and placed him under arrest.

• A 23-year-old Bridgehampton man was arrested July 23 at 4:52 p.m. at the Bridgehampton Kmart and charged with two counts of petty larceny, a misdemeanor. According to the arrest report, the man, who worked at Kmart, was seen on surveillance camera on July 17 at 11:07 p.m. and July 25 at 10:35 p.m. taking items from the stockroom.
